Tiny DancerThe dance studio was silent save for the echoes generated by her moving feet, the constant rise and descend of her body as she strove to push herself harder and faster. Too hard, too fast. She fell to the ground with a gasp as she felt her ankle roll form under her.Tiny Dancer
Evelyn sat, breathing hard while she berated herself. She needed her ankles in working order for the recital. This was the third time this week that they'd failed to support her. She glared at the mutinous appendage before sighing and falling backwards onto the floor. She was extremely thankful no one had been here to see that. The dance studio's rising star brought d

The Turtle and the HareOh God, oh God, oh God, she thought as she clung to the ledge. Why did she agree to this? She was usually quite sensible. To be fair, it hadn't seemed like a horrible idea but now she was here and everywhere she looked, all she saw was sharp, glinting metal and noises bombarded her ears. I'm going to fall and someone's going to come past and chop off my head. I know it. Why, oh why was I stupid enough to say yes?The Turtle and the Hare
The ice skating rink seemed to be full of professionals, people skating here and there and doing pretty spins and she saw one man skate quickly in front of a couple as if mocking their slow and steady speed, who were goi

Emotional CrisisIt started with a one-off comment, an accident on my part. I hadnt meant to say it, it had just slipped out but now she wouldnt let it go. My friend, Angela, the unpaid psychologist. Angie had seen the bruises, the ones that were usually hidden by long-sleeved shirts. I hadnt meant for her to see them. I cringed as I remembered the conversation.Emotional Crisis
Oh wow. Ouch. Whered you get those? She had grabbed my arm, pulling up my sleeves. I couldnt have escaped, even if Id wanted to.
N-nowhere, I stammered. Stupid, really. Panicking, Id tried to cover them back up

ScavengerA scavenger. A person who scavenges. Scavenges everything that's anything.Scavenger
This particular scavenger, a girl at the ripe old age of ten, doesn't do it on purpose, doesn't realise that what she does has a name. She just looks. Looks for things that catch her eye, things that give off that spark that sometimes she thinks only she can see. She gets it anyway she can, but once she's seen it, that particular object, she doesn't let it go. She tracks it down and takes it, because if only she can see that spark, then it's obviously meant to belong to her.
She pays no mind to what the object is. It may be something as insig

Human, BeingThere was a time, not long ago, I would have given anything to be something else.Human, Being
Ever since I was little I wanted to be an animal. It didn't really matter what animal, as long as it was an animal. Animals were beautiful effortlessly, it seemed to me, and oh so deserving of love, admiration, respect, and affection. I was not. I was less than perfect, unlovable as a little girl, and so I sought to be an animal. It had to be better than being a human, especially a chubby little girl who nobody understood.
As I grew, I centered my life around this belief
